Ashe
Ashe’s art practice is conceptually based and deeply rooted in exploring the politics of belongingness and the human condition. He creates works that are both poetic and evocative, delving into the emotional intricacies of the human experience and exploring the complexities and nuances of identity, belonging, and marginalisation. Ashe is focused is on extending his installation practice into new forms of expression and territories, by fusing live static performative gestures and the ready-made with various mediums such as photography, sculpture, text, and video. This approach allows him to create dynamic and multi-layered works that engage the viewer on numerous levels, both visually and conceptually. Ashe’s practice questions our broken social systems and reflects on the ongoing search for a sense of belonging in contemporary society, highlighting the vulnerability that comes with it.
Ashe graduated from Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Photography) in 1995, and a Masters of Contemporary Art (with distinction) from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2014. Ashe has held solo exhibitions at VOID_Melbourne, MAMA (Murray Art Museum Albury), Kings ARI, Blindside Gallery and BUS Projects. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions across Australia, and internationally, at Parliament House Australia, Canberra; Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh), Melbourne; Lehrter Siebzehn, Berlin; tête, Berlin; Enjoy Public Art Gallery, Wellington; HOTA, Gold Coast; The Substation, Newport; Plimsoll Gallery, Hobart; Campbelltown Arts Centre, Campbelltown; and Araluen Gallery, Alice Springs. Ashe has received funding from the Australia Council for the Arts and Regional Arts Victoria for the development of his practice. He was the recipient of the Ian Potter Cultural Trust Emerging Artist Grant in 2014 and the National Gallery of Victoria Women’s Association Award in 2013. His work has been selected as finalist in awards including, Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award, Incinerator Art Award-Art for Social Change, Bowness Photography Prize and the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award. Bettina Robertson
Bettina developed a strong interest in both the visual and performing arts at a very young age. In her early adolescence, she wrote and directed plays in the family attic, complete with lights and curtains. The neighboring children were selected for various acting roles and several plays were performed over the course of the summer months.
Bettina had intended to study theatre and English at Acadia University but was side-tracked into Psychology. Many years later while attending graduate school in Sydney, Australia she enrolled in and completed a diploma in Expressive Arts offered through Rozelle Hospital. The facilitation training included: Moreno’s Psychodrama, authentic movement, art therapy, journalling, puppetry and clowning and developing and presenting short performances. She has utilized these skills when working with children, adults and couples for years to come. Bettina is a passionate believer in that creativity is inherently healing.
Returning to Halifax, Nova Scotia her and a business partner owned and operated a private art gallery for new and emerging artists in the area. This project accepted all types of artistic expression and was strongly supported by the local community. Unfortunately, the heritage home was sold and my business partner returned to Germany.
Bettina then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where she worked with very marginalized, vulnerable street artists on a program called Out of the Rain. The artists were provided with studio space, art supplies, nutritional lunches, educational workshops etc. Many of these artists were extremely talented but often sold their art pieces for drugs at a margin of what they would procur in a gallery.
The funding was discontinued and Bettina felt this was very unethical. She then spent the next year researching and writing an arts-based social enterprise, which would provide street artists with a liveable income. The product had enormous appeal with high-end retailers, cruise ships, the travel and gift industry. However, despite an enormous effort, Bettina was unable to raise the capital needed for seed/start-up stages.
During her years in Vancouver, she was very involved in the arts community and was fortunate to be involved in several group and solo exhibitions She also developed several art programs for Vancouver Native Housing, Fraser Health-Bolivar Court, and for a girl’s orphange in Ecuador.
Bettina is a self-taught artist, who has painted exclusively in watercolour, although she has a strong interest in mixed medium and fiber arts. Her work hangs in private collections in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the United States of America and Germany.
Bettina has lived in Albury for 2.5 years and is really looking forward to connecting with other artists and creative community groups.

Claire Bridge
I explore notions of hybridity through sculpture, ceramics, painting, installation and moving image. I am interested in the abject, hybrid and monstrous body. My work delves into the body as material, polyphonic voice and relational multiplicities embedded in cultural and environmental ecosystems. In these times of ecological crisis, I seek to rupture perceptions of a distinct individual self, and question notions of the defined. Unearthing obscured stories, my practice provokes conversation about cultural, political, and societal transformation.
Through materials and process, I reach into the mythologies and symbolic languages of my mixed eastern and western cultural heritage to explore transformation. Drawing on science, ecology and imagination, I incorporate personal biographies and cross-cultural mythologies of decay, ritual and regeneration into chimeric conglomerations and hybrid beings. With my mixed Anglo-Indian-Australian and culturally Deaf heritages, as a hearing, bilingual (Auslan-English) artist, I consider how hyphenated ways of being may queer dominant paradigms and give rise to potential new narratives.
I create commissioned private and public artwork, produce exhibitions and offer writing services.
