Spring Ditch is our jam-packed, fun-filled family event that serves up a smorgasbord of original Australian music. A ‘tip of the hat’ to the former Stanley New Year’s Day Sports carnival, held for over 140 years at the same site, a natural amphitheatre nestled in the shady gum trees of the Stanley Recreation Reserve, just a few clicks from Beechworth.
This year’s headliners Afrobiotics bring us the fiery rhythms of Senegal to the tiny township of Stanley. The afrobeat six-piece will cap off a day of tunes by a ton of homegrown talent: Bright’s badass blues band Minnie & The Moonrakers, the hypnotic vibes of Beechworth’s own Sam Shallue (of Magic Bean Guillotine), brand new Albury Wodonga funk rockers Lucey, and up and coming local singer-songwriter Samara Bright.
The incomparable John Walker of Triple R fame is back from hiatus as our Master of Ceremonies to entertain and intrigue all-comers. Beechworth’s number one party starter DJ Jane Doe will help keep things rolling with sets through the day.
Come for the tunes, stay for the fun! Alongside great local food, drinks and produce, Spring Ditch showcases community involvement with kids’ activities (including the infamous Golden Boot Toss), demonstrations and competitions. And we are spitting chips to announce the Ditch return of the North East and Border Axemen’s Association for woodchopping demonstrations. Just like the old days!
With all this and so much more, Spring Ditch is a big day out for all ages, welcoming everyone with a touch of local nostalgia and a heaping of incredible Australian music.
