Carving workshop for kids at MAMA with artist Noriko Nakamura!
Kids can get hands on in this carving workshop, using fun tools like chisels and rasps, learning all about how a block of limestone can be turned into their very own 3D artwork. Noriko will guide the students to safely carve and cut the limestone, and teach them how to carve intricate details and make a unique piece of art.
What to expect:
Noriko will take the students to see her sculptures in her current exhibition What our bodies bring to us (2026) at MAMA, then head back to the workshop to begin working on their own sculpture. And students get to take their finished artwork home at the end!
What to bring:
Firm covered-toe shoes
Waterbottle
Clothes that can get dirty
An old towel or plastic bag to take their sculpture home
Aprons and safety gear, such as dust masks, eye protection and gloves, are supplied. This workshop may contain loud noises when carving, so students are encouraged to bring their own earmuffs if needed.
This workshop is designed for children aged 6-12 years.
