Maude Davey in Conversation with Lindy Hume

Former HotHouse Artistic Directorate member Maude Davey returns to the Butter Factory for a special public conversation with HotHouse Creative Director Lindy Hume AM. Now Head of Theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts, Maude has maintained a deep connection with our region throughout her career. 

Maude will share her career insights and stories of HotHouse over the decades in a conversation with Lindy on stage at the Butter Factory Theatre. 

MAUDE DAVEY

Maude trained as an actor at the Victorian College of the Arts and currently leads the VCA theatre course. She is a previous member of the HotHouse Artistic Directorate (details below) and a founding member of the theatre/music a cappella group Crying in Public Places, touring nationally and internationally. As an actor Maude has appeared in television and film (titles include Apple Cider Vinegar, The Family Next Door, The Newsreader, Offspring, Janus) and film as well as theatre (companies include MTC, Belvoir, Malthouse, Finucane and Smith and HotHouse). She is a respected director, artistic director, teacher, writer and dramaturge. 

Maude served as a member of the Artistic Directorate of Hothouse Theatre between 1999 and 2002. In that time, Hothouse presented her own shows, Parallax Island (Maude Davey and David Pidd) and Skin! By Crying In Public Places. Hothouse Theatre took Skin! on their ‘small towns’ tour, visiting small halls and community centres all around the region in 2001. After that experience, Maude pitched the idea of a musical project made with community members, which became Burn! presented by Hothouse Theatre in 2002. She also had the privilege of working on Chris Thompson’s The Bridge (directed by Wayne Hope) and Solid, by Ningali Lawford Wolf, Kelton Pell and Phil Thompson when they were presented at The Butter Factory Theatre.
