The Understudy pulls back the curtain on a side of Australian touring life audiences rarely saw — the powerhouse AllStar Band behind John Paul Young and Stevie Wright, and the
musicians who kept the show alive night a􀀁er night.
At the heart of it is Michael “China” Walker, the ul􀀂mate understudy: the mul􀀂-instrumentalist who could jump from keys to guitar to bass to drums to vocals without missing a beat. But
this 􀀂me, his story is woven into a much bigger celebra􀀂on — the music, the mayhem, and the legends he stood beside for decades.
The show brings the iconic hits of JPY and Stevie Wright roaring back to life, performed by original members of The AllStar Band, joined by players from Stylus, TMG, and Tommy
Emmanuel’s band. Between the songs are the road stories — cheeky, chao􀀂c, and straight from the Countdown era — the kind of tales only a touring band can tell.
Cu􀀃ng-edge holograms of lost band mates, join the band live on stage in this ground-breaking hybrid concert experience.
It’s a celebra􀀂on of the hits you love — and a nod to the understudy who helped keep them alive.
