Sometimes the most compelling stories begin in the most familiar places.

Beechworth artist Valerie Crosse invites audiences to look again at the everyday when she presents her latest solo exhibition, Musings from the Kitchen Sink, at Art Gallery on Ovens in Wangaratta from 20–24 August.

The exhibition brings together a new body of work from the accomplished painter and educator, whose practice has long explored the spaces between observation, imagination and personal reflection. Throughout her career, Crosse has worked across oils, acrylics, gouache and collage, creating works that encourage viewers to discover beauty and meaning in the ordinary.

Visitors are invited to celebrate the exhibition at the official opening on Friday 21 August from 5.30pm to 7.00pm, where the exhibition will be opened by respected artist Marie Salinger. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

A practising artist, educator and long-time contributor to North East Victoria’s arts community, Crosse has spent much of her career sharing her knowledge with others. She has taught art at Cathedral College Wangaratta, GOTAFE Shepparton and numerous community workshops, while continuing to exhibit her own work throughout the region. More recently, exhibitions exploring mythology, identity and the inner emotional landscape have demonstrated the continued evolution of her practice.

Art Gallery on Ovens provides an ideal setting for the exhibition. As an artist-run gallery dedicated to showcasing regional artists, it has become an important platform for contemporary visual art in North East Victoria, presenting a diverse program of solo and group exhibitions throughout the year.

Whether you’re already familiar with Valerie Crosse’s work or discovering it for the first time, Musings from the Kitchen Sink offers an opportunity to slow down, reflect and see the familiar through fresh eyes.
