Choreographed by Tim Podesta for Tim Podesta Creative
Award-winning and internationally acclaimed, Shadow Aspect premiered in the UK with Ballet Cymru and went on to earn the title Best New Ballet Production at the Wales Theatre Awards.
Drawing on the psychological theories of Carl Jung, the work explores the hidden corners of the self — our suppressed impulses, our private darkness and the dynamic relationships these internal forces create on stage.
Combining sharp, physically exact movement with powerful visuals and costume, the dancers traverse symbolic landscapes of shadow and light. The choreography poses questions about identity and transformation —how we manage what we conceal and what we reveal.
In London, Shadow Aspect demonstrated Podesta’s signature capacity to fuse classical technique with a contemporary edge, offering work that is technically challenging, emotionally charged and visually haunting.
As one of Podesta’s most revered works, Shadow Aspect stands as a landmark of his creative output — inviting audiences to confront the hidden “‘shadow”’ within and emerge with a new sense of self-awareness.
