You’re invited to the opening of Tom Roberts: A Community Tribute to the Legacy of an Australian Master.
Light refreshments included. RSVP via Humanitix essential.
This exhibition is a community celebration and exploration of the life, artistic influence, primary subject matter, and masterful techniques of one of Australia’s most revered artists, Tom Roberts (1856–1931). The timing is highly significant, coinciding with the 170th anniversary of Roberts’ birthday and drawing attention to his well-known historical links to our region—Corowa, the birthplace of Federation.
Experience a curated survey of Australian art, featuring a dynamic range of mediums from both emerging talents and esteemed practitioners from across Australia.
The opening night will feature an exclusive Artist Talk by Kala Jarda, the creative partnership of Tunisian-born artist Kala and his wife Dianne. They will share the unique story of behind their submission, a monumental mosaic rendition of Shearing the Rams, which bridges Kala’s heritage in rural Tunisia with his life in Australia. The talk will explore how their obsession with Roberts’ masterpiece led to a three-year journey involving several hundred thousand pieces of hand-cut glass and the development of the pioneering D&H Technique, which they utilise to achieve a level of realism rarely seen in the medium. Having gained respect in international mosaic circles for this realistic “world’s first” method, the pair will discuss their technical process and how Roberts’ legacy inspired a modern homage that transcends borders.
The exhibition will run from 5 March to 18 April 2026, Corowa Art Space opening hours are Tuesday to Friday, 9.30am – 4.30pm and Saturday 10am – 2pm.
