The Power of Music in Warfare: From the earliest days of warfare, music has been used on the battlefield — to communicate orders, rally courage, and lift the morale of troops under pressure. In this compelling presentation, Dr Graham Jones explores how music has shaped military life through the centuries and why it remains just as relevant in today’s armed forces. Is its role simply about preserving history, heritage and tradition — or does music serve a deeper, more strategic purpose as a form of psychological warfare? Join us for a unique look at the power of music, drawn from a lifetime spent at the heart of military music.

About the presenter: Dr Graham Jones spent nearly forty years as a musician in the British Army, retiring as Senior Director of Music, Household Division, and Director of Music, Coldstream Guards — a position unequalled in British military music. He recorded over 40 albums, commissioned more than 30 new works for wind band, and was made a Member of the British Empire in 1993 for his service to military music. He now works as a guest conductor, adjudicator, speaker and educator.
