Using local newspapers, diaries and ‘everyday’ photographs from Jindera collections, In German imagines the impact of the disenfranchising Conscription campaign on this community, with its strong German Lutheran heritage. A patriotic, but sometimes difficult time, underscored with the steady rhythms and attentions of farming and day to day life. While it is presumed that The Great War hastened cultural transition, traces to German culture or language remained long after the war, and while they have all but evaporated now, German prayers passed down through the generations are still whispered nightly by some.

The Jindera Pioneer Museum stands as a bricks and mortar home to these echoes of the past.
