Book of Remembrance 1931
Templeton, Walter Taylor
This book lists the women and men of Albury and region who served in the First World War. It is handmade, decorated and illustrated.
P.S. Templeton completed the hand lettering, and the binding and decoration were done by Walter Taylor in Sydney in 1931.
Wal Taylor was born in Queensland and was a trained bookbinder. He served in Egypt and France during the First World War.
As well as being an important record, the book is a work of art in its own right.
The title page reads:
The Great War
1914 – 1918
The Book of Remembrance
The tumult and the shouting dies
The captains and kings depart
Still stands thine ancient sacrifice
An humble and a contrite heart
Lord God of hosts be with us yet
Lest we forget – lest we forget.”
