Soldiers from the ‘Albury Battery’, the 13th Battery 5th Artillery Brigade, helped defend the French village of Noreuil in April 1917.

The riverside parkland now known as Noreuil Park was named as such in 1919, after consultation with the ex-service personnel who helped build it.

However, most Australians could not manage the French pronunciation “Nor-ray”, and a new pronunciation “No-re-ell” has been in common usage ever since.

Thank you to the Alliance Française Albury-Wodonga and all the participants involved in the making of this short film.
