At 11am Wednesday 29 October at Tallangatta Library, there will be the launch of the Mitta to Murray (M2M) Landcare 2025 Parallel Wilds project. The Parallel Wilds project workshops have been funded by Mitta to Murray (M2M) Landcare via Border Trust FRRR Bushfire Recovery funding.
Students from 6 primary schools have created virtual worlds about the future of wilderness and regenerative power of the natural world. Students were empowered to research and create a virtual story through the eyes of native species, working with creative writing and 3D virtual technology.
The launch will see students from Sacred Heart Corryong, Walwa, Talgarno, Bethanga, St Michaels Tallangatta and Mitta Mitta present their projects, with interactive viewing at the launch on virtual reality headsets. Students receive a QR digital certificate in the project to promote to community.
Since its inception at Outdoor School Bogong, 2021, Parallel Wilds has developed projects in regional shires and schools, including residencies with Creative Victoria and Regional Arts. In 2024, Parallel Wilds and Young Somerset won the Group Category of the UK Creative Freedom Award.
Mayor of Towong Shire, Andrew Whitehead will launch the 2025 project, with M2M Landcare members introducing Parallel Wilds. Towong Shire has assisted in the project, which has been supported by the Conservation Regulator with camp fire buckets as prizes to engaged students.
Mitta to Murray Landcare gratefully acknowledges the assistance of Border Trust as Trustee for
The Towong Community Bushfire Disaster Relief Fund, for their valuable contribution to this
project. https://www.bordertrust.org.au/granting/towong-community-bushfire-relief-fund/
