Celebrating Connection to Water: Local First Nations Artists Invited to Submit Work

North East Water, in partnership with Murray Arts and Burraja Gallery, is proud to announce that entries are now open for the 6th North East Water First Nations Art Prize.

This acquisitive art prize celebrates the creative talents of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who live, work or maintain strong connections to the Murray NSW and North East Victoria region.

For 2025, artists are invited to submit one artwork responding to the theme of “Connection to Water”. Visual artworks in all mediums are welcome, including two-dimensional and three-dimensional works suitable for gallery display.

Selected works will be showcased in a month-long public exhibition at Burraja Gallery, Albury-Wodonga, from 28 October to 28 November 2025, with the official opening and prize announcement to take place on the evening of 28 October 2025.

Each winning artwork will be purchased by North East Water and other sponsoring organisations, ensuring strong support for local First Nations artists. Additional works will also be available for sale through Burraja Gallery, with a 20% commission plus GST.

  • EOI Deadline: 1 October 2025

  • Artwork Collection: 14–21 October 2025

  • Opening & Prize Announcement: 28 October 2025

  • Exhibition Dates: 28 October – 28 November 2025

Artists must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to Murray Arts / Burraja Gallery by 1 October 2025.
