First Nations Awareness and Cultural Safety for Artists and Arts Workers (Online)

In 2025, Regional Arts NSW is running a monthly program of online industry workshops to provide regional artists and arts organisations with advice and guidance. Led by our CEO, Dr. Tracey Callinan OAM, these online sessions provide regional arts professionals with essential skills in business, marketing, funding, and career development.

In this workshop, Anaiwan man Dave Widders will take workshop participants through the history and politics of Aboriginal culture in NSW, helping you to find effective ways of working respectfully. This will help us all with creating better and safer environments for Aboriginal artists and workers, increasing awareness and understanding throughout the arts sector and in our regional communities.

Dave Widders is a very proud Anaiwan man from Armidale NSW. David has worked over the last 20 years in Federal, State, local Government and community organisations. David is driven by a passion to make a difference for Aboriginal people and make a push towards a positive reconciliation across the wider community. This can only happen with a two-way education process. Dave has worked in Aboriginal communities across Australia from Urban, Regional and Remote areas and has been accepted by the local Aboriginal people respectively.
