Applications are now open for the Curlew Regional Writers Grant 2025, a Writing NSW initiative that gives one regional writer a $1,000 boost to sharpen their craft, travel to Sydney and enjoy a dedicated week-long residency—all before the end of the year. Entries close at 11.59 pm on 27/07/2025, so now’s the moment to put pen to paper.

What’s on offer

  • $1,000 cash support—Writing NSW pays your chosen one-day workshop fee up-front and transfers the remaining $830 to cover travel, accommodation or other project costs.
  • A one-day Writing NSW workshop of your choice, delivered by leading authors and industry professionals at Callan Park, Lilyfield.
  • A week-long private studio residency in Writing NSW’s light-filled heritage building—ideal time and space to turn new skills into fresh pages.
  • One-year regional membership (or an extra year if you’re already a member), unlocking discounted courses, events and networking.

Supported by writer and patron Brittany Riley, the grant aims to remove the distance barrier and connect regional storytellers with metropolitan opportunities.

Who can apply?

  • Adult writers (18 +) living at least 200 km from Sydney.
  • Residents of New South Wales working in any genre.
  • Applicants who can complete the workshop and residency within 2025.
