Arts Rutherglen is undertaking an innovative project using street art to brighten up the doors and windows of Main Street businesses and other surrounding significant buildings in Rutherglen.
The aim of the project is to research the original and varied uses of Rutherglen’s historic buildings and their owners and for an artist to create a funky, contemporary installation depicting an aspect from the past; in other words, a portal into Rutherglen’s history but with a modern twist.
With the Main Street going through revitalization, Arts Rutherglen decided that some form of visual art could only enhance the beauty of Rutherglen even further and the concept of ‘Portals into Rutherglen' was born.
Visit Rutherglen and uncover it's history through the contemporary eyes of local artists.
