Flow of the River
Department of Justice & Regulation Aboriginal Art Exhibition

GIGS Art Gallery, Gateway Village Wodonga

Tuesday 20 June – Sunday 2 July 2017

Department of Justice & Regulation Wodonga held an Aboriginal Art Competition earlier this year with the theme of 'Flow of the River'. Five artworks were selected as part of the competition and these works will be featured in the Departments new offices in Wodonga. To celebrate and showcase the winning entries The Department of Justice & Regulation has partnered with Murray Arts & GIGS Art Gallery to hold an exhibition featuring all of the winning work as well as some pieces by local school children and Beechworth correctional centre Koori prisoners. This exhibition coincides with the lead up to NAIDOC week 2017 and we encourage everyone to drop by GIGS to view the exhibition. Read more

Artwork story about 'Turtle'

My painting was inspired by the story of Wayambeh the long neck turtle after my Art Club teacher showed me these stories in class. I like that Wayambeh is a little foolish and stands up for his own ideas even though he gets told off. He takes the blame for doing the wrong thing and learns from his mistakes the hard way.

Exhibition Opening: 3:30pm Tuesday 20 June 2017 - afternoon tea will be provided
