Mark Tuckey embarked on his road to success 25 years ago. 'From nothing but an old F100, $200 and the determination to succeed, it's been a long and interesting journey to be asked to speak at Bright Sparks!
Oh there were a lot of other jobs and activities prior to becoming a maker and designer, which gave me worldly knowledge and practical experience. I even worked in Albury briefly in the late 70's, doing landscaping at the Lavington Sports Club.' Now with a staff of 45, showrooms in Melbourne and Sydney and a homewares store on Sydney's northern beaches, for Bright Sparks, Tuckey's keynote speech is themed Turning Your Passion into your Business.
Mark Tuckey started his furniture making and design business in 1990, from a small garage in Armadale Melbourne, with $200, an old F100 and a lot of determination to succeed. It was called Ancient Modes. Mark Tuckey wanted to be engaged in an environmentally friendly, creative process that would pay the bills. His passion was to be able to use his hands, his head and his heart. The business has grown steadily from then and about 7 years ago; Ancient Modes was rebranded to Mark Tuckey. The journey for Mark from being on his own, to the present day, has been a steep, step by step learning curve, with no formal higher education after high school and no 'how to' text book to refer to.
Mark Tuckey and Clare Bowditch will be joined by a number of other creative industry practitioners offering workshops and panel discussions covering a whole range of useful topics for participants including using social media, building business plans, networking, business partnerships and digital software. He will also offer conference participants a session on The Science of Marketing.
