Country
Arts Support Program (CASP) Grants Announced
Regional
Arts NSW is delighted to announce the successful funding applicants
of the Country Arts Support Program (CASP) for 2008. CASP is a key
regional arts funding program for NSW which provides support to
employ artists in locally initiated arts and cultural projects.
The aim is to provide access to arts activities for small communities,
to encourage communities to work together on cultural projects,
to foster cultural diversity in the regions and to ensure that regional
and rural areas have an artistic voice.
Over
$14,000 of grant funding has been distributed through the program
to the Border Region for the following projects:
Chalking
it Up: Pavement Art @ Applause Festival
Pavement Artist, Ulla Taylor, will create the template for a chalk
drawing which will be completed by community members as part of
the Applause Festival.
Going Potty
Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds will attend workshops
to learn skills in pottery, teamwork and art design. They will produce
items for display to the community.
Culcairn Pipe Band Parade
Two pipe and drum bands will provide traditional cultural music
and dance experiences as part of the street parade and festival
celebrating Culcairn's 125 year history and culture.
Bollywood Spectacular Dance workshops
Farah Shah, Australia's leading Bollywood choreographer, dancer,
teacher and performer will run a series of 'Bollywood Dance ' workshops
for adults and children.
Axis of Awesome comedy band workshops
Musical comedy trio, Axis of Awesome, will conduct school and community
workshops in musical comedy, songwriting and improvised comedy and
perform as feature act of the The Retro Youth Café.
Crime Scene-the sequel art Exhibition
Opening with Forum
As part of Youth Week, interstate bands, Mz Ann Thropik and The
Wrath will perform at the opening of Crime Scene-the sequel photographic
exhibition at the Albury Regional Art Gallery. Mz Ann will also
hold a 'tea party' forum in the Cafe on the importance of art and
music as healthy and constructive forms of self expression and interaction.
Shaun Caldwell Project
Writing workshops and mentoring opportunities with digital video
artist Shaun Gladwell held in conjunction with a dynamic video art
exhibition. Works produced will feature in a performance event during
the Write Around the Murray Festival.
